Nothing is real. Everything is not imagination. Somewhere between lies the truth.
When I use "I" to write, it is because I love writing in the first person.
PS- No characters including "I" and "my" is real. I love fiction and I stick to writing what I love.

Broken wings
There is a difference between flying and soaring. With clipped wings, if you can still soar, who wants to fly?
